Northern Rivers businesses shine brightly at The Star, Sydney

The Northern Rivers Rail Trail (NRRT) has claimed Gold in the Tourist Attractions category at the prestigious NSW Tourism Awards, cementing its place as one of the State’s most outstanding visitor experiences. 

Mayor of Tweed Shire, Chris Cherry, said the award reflects the incredible impact the Rail Trail has had since its opening in March 2023.

“The Northern Rivers Rail Trail is so proud to win Gold in the first year entering these awards. We are truly honoured to receive this recognition and to stand alongside so many amazing tourism operators from across NSW,” Mayor Cherry said.

“This award celebrates not just a fantastic visitor experience but also the Rail Trail’s vital contribution to our region’s social and economic future. The Trail has become a cherished asset for locals and a drawcard for visitors, helping to sustain and grow the vibrant communities it connects.”

Mayor Cherry also highlighted how the accolade provides valuable momentum as efforts continue to extend the Trail.

“This is a welcomed boost for the ongoing work to complete and connect the Northern Rivers Rail Trail, ensuring it reaches its full potential as a landmark experience. We are especially excited to celebrate the opening of the Lismore section in just two weeks.

“The Northern Rivers Rail Trail continues to shine as an example of community, council and regional collaboration, showcasing the best of what the Northern Rivers has to offer.

“Congratulations also to Council’s tourism partner, the Tweed Tourism Company, who won a Gold for the second year in a row for Tourism Marketing and Campaigns,” she said.

The NRRT’s Gold win was part of an incredible night for The Tweed at the NSW Tourism Awards, with fellow local winners including:

Potager – A Kitchen Garden – Gold, Tourism Restaurant & Catering Services, now entering the Hall of Fame

Husk Farm Distillery, Pipit Restaurant, and Hirehood also took home Silver awards in their respective categories.
